Most or all teeth affected

When was the last time you bit into a crunchy apple? Do you dread public speaking because of ill-fitting dentures? Do your dentures cause you trouble and discomfort, instead of much-needed support?

More than a smile
Our teeth play an important role in our daily life. An attractive, natural-looking smile is seen as a symbol of beauty and health, and a set of functioning teeth lets us enjoy the foods we love. Our teeth help us feel confident at work, and they allow us to stay healthy and active as we age.

Dentures often aren't the answer

Dentures are often the first solution that comes to mind for replacing multiple damaged or missing teeth in our mouths. The problem is dentures sometimes cause more problems than the missing teeth. Even after numerous dental visits to get their dentures fixed, many denture wearers still remain frustrated and in pain. Thankfully dentists have other solutions for replacing ill-fitting dentures with a set of natural-looking, fully functioning set of teeth.

Are dentures a good solution?

You may be or may know one of the many denture wearers unhappy with the fit of dentures. Unsecured, they can move in your mouth while you eat and speak, creating pressure on your gums and jawbone causing painful inflammation. Even worse, they may fall out!

Chewing and speaking challenges

Dentures often make it difficult for you to chew, which can stop you from eating many of the foods you once enjoyed. Plastic components covering the entire roof of your mouth can have a negative influence on the way you experience food. Dentures may also affect how you pronounce words and can keep you from speaking freely in public.

Changes to your appearance
Because your own teeth and tooth roots are no longer present to stimulate the jawbone, it will start to shrink. This shrinking will also negatively influence how your dentures fit, meaning more refitting visits to your dentist. Missing teeth further affect your appearance, because your lips are no longer supported from the inside. Your chin starts to move forward and upward and your lips turn inward.

The better solution

If you have lost most or all of your teeth, a modern dental solution supported by dental implants is the best alternative to ill-fitting dentures.

Depending on your specific dental situation, as few as two to four dental implants can make a big difference in stabilizing your denture and giving you a full set of fixed teeth.

Dental implants give your new restoration the much-needed stability in your jawbone that has been missing during all your years of denture wearing.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant functions as the root of a new tooth. Only a few millimeters long and carefully engineered, it is placed in your jawbone by your dental provider and serves as the foundation for your new tooth.

New teeth from day one
Depending on your individual situation, your dentist might be able to connect a temporary restoration to your new dental implants. In this case, you can go back to living a normal life right after surgery. Later, after the implants have fully healed, you return to your dentist and begin work on your more long term restoration.

This restoration may be either fixed to the dental implants for ultimate stability or in some instances stabilized but still removable allowing easier oral hygiene access.

Important safety information
Treatment with dental implants is a surgical procedure and requires prior evaluation by your dentist to make sure your dental and general health permits dental implant treatment. Find out more
